About RHSFA
We connect local citizens with local farmers
The Red Hills Small Farm Alliance (RHSFA) is a non-profit organization that supports our local farms and producers so they can increase food access in our community.
We help consumers seeking fresh food connect with small farmers, ranchers, and food producers in the Florida Panhandle and Southwest Georgia.
Our strength is distribution: Farmers/producers list their seasonal offerings on our Red Hills Online Market. Shoppers select. In a few days, they have their meats, fruit, soups, vegetables, pastries and more delivered to their home, place of business or a central hub for pickup.

Origin Story
Founded in 2010 by four passionate women—Louise Divine (Turkey Hill Farm), Katie Harris (Full Earth Farm), Mary Russ, and Malini Ram Moraghan—the Red Hills Small Farm Alliance (RHSFA) was born from a shared vision to support and grow the local small farm community in the greater Tallahassee area. With backgrounds in agriculture and a strong commitment to inclusivity, they recognized the need for a collaborative space where farmers could share resources, build connections, and thrive.

Louise, a dedicated small farmer, had already been building community connections since 2001 by sending out weekly “farm reports” and organizing farm tours, fostering a sense of collaboration rather than competition among local farmers. Katie, with a background in art, had studied in Massachusetts and seen firsthand how farmers interacted with their communities and wanted to bring that spirit of connection to Florida. Malini, a newcomer to North Florida, was eager to make a tangible impact on local agriculture in Tallahassee. Mary, who now leads Whole Foods in Chattanooga, was at the time managing Orchard Pond organic farm in Leon County.

In the early days, the four women gathered weekly for Monday night potluck meetings at Katie’s house, where they brainstormed ways to support the region’s farmers. The question always was, “How can we get more farmers involved?” This collaborative spirit led them to survey some local farmers in early 2010, where the overwhelming response was the need for a reliable outlet for their products. With that insight, the RHSFA was incorporated in December 2010, and the first online market launched in 2011. The early market operated under the tagline, “We bring you the best we can produce” reflecting their commitment to high-quality, local food.

The Alliance quickly outgrew its original space near Railroad Square between FAMU and FSU campuses, moving the distribution center to Northwood Mall. Over the years, the RHSFA expanded to better serve the growing demand for fresh, local food—ultimately moving to its current location on Commonwealth Business Drive after the 2020 surge in interest sparked by the Covid pandemic. Today, the Alliance includes over 100 small farmers, ranchers, and artisan food producers within a 100-mile radius of Tallahassee enriching the lives of thousands of area families. The organization continues to celebrate local food through events like the annual Tomato Feastival and Seven Days of Local Delights and it remains dedicated to educating and empowering farmers through workshops and collaborative opportunities.

The vision, passion, and tireless dedication of the original four women laid the foundation for the Red Hills Small Farm Alliance, and their legacy continues to inspire and strengthen our community today.
